CHALLENGE To create an enhanced arrival space at Cairo Airport's new terminal, to include a five-star iconic hotel structure and a landscaped environment that would provide a setting immediately conducive to rest and relaxation.
SOLUTION The design concept originated from the stylistic expression of the Lotus flower - an iconic symbol in Egyptian mythology. The architecture forms two, six story wings that splay at the ends, keeping the landscaped area enclosed as the 'heart' of the flower. Cabanas shelter the pool area from the busy road that borders the site, creating a tranquil garden in this busy location. The building then feathers towards the south, where on one side is the entrance with a dynamic porte cochere and ballroom and the spa and casino on the other. The bridge forms the central spine of the building which extends from the airport terminal to the third floor of the hotel itself, thus acting as the 'stem' to the building. Hotel guests can enjoy a range of intimate outdoor spaces including courtyards, a spa and sculptured gardens. Cabanas shelter the pool area from the busy road that borders the site and create a tranquil garden in this busy location.
SIZE 2.34 hectares landscaped areas: Main pool; children’s pool; poolside cabanas; sports bar; outdoor dining; floral garden; lobby garden; 349 guestrooms
