Kempinski Hotel Jinan

A decadent and luxurious design that looks to its surrounds for inspiration

Location

Jinan

Size

200 keys

Known as the ‘City of Springs’, Jinan is popular among visitors for its abundance of beautiful, natural artesian springs, lakes and mountains. As the capital state of Qi Lu and the Shandong province for more than two thousand years, the location merges the charm and essence of tradition, history and nature, whilst growing as a cosmopolitan city, cultural centre and economic hub. Come 2021, it will also be home to a new 300-plus-key Kempinski hotel designed by Wimberly Interiors.

Of the project, Rachel Johnson, Senior Vice President and London Studio Director, commented, “The Kempinski Hotel Jinan was an extraordinary project for our design team. A visionary, collaborative client enabled us to push the boundaries of luxury and style in the dazzling city of Jinan. Combining the brand’s majestic European heritage with Jinan’s rich cultural history and stunning natural resources, we designed to bring these two crossroads together for an unforgettable guest experience.”

The epitome of luxury hospitality, the Kempinski Hotel Jinan is an expression of the brand’s pillars of individuality, expression and storytelling, and will serve as the perfect backdrop for many ‘once in a lifetime’ experiences to come. Taking inspiration from its unique surroundings, the design of the hotel has the journey of water at its heart – complemented by an homage to the region’s rich history and the brand’s world-class hospitality with a distinctly European flair.

Regarded for its reputation as a friendly city that prides itself on its culture and welcoming nature, upon arrival at the hotel guests are greeted by contemporary artworks, lighting, furnishings and materials that evoke a sense of warmth. A decadent palette of rich stones, emerald greens and gold accents are featured throughout, highlighting Kempinski’s modus operandi, ‘life should be lived with style.’

The Kempinski Hotel Jinan design reflects the beauty of its locale and treasured natural resources. The lobby is majestic and grand – reflective of “the mountain”; the lobby bar visually brings the “willow and lotus” to life; guestrooms are calming and comfortable like “the pond”; the executive lounge is dynamic and fresh like “the spring” and The View is invigorating and balanced like “the tea.”

The guest journey

Kempinski guests will follow the delicate journey of the water. Entering the lobby, the reception desk is designed with sheer rock. The lobby itself embodies the scale and majesty of the mountain, with grey, austere tones rising alongside a spiral timber staircase with a gloss ribbon finish, summiting towards a chandelier of cloud. The vertical journey offers extraordinary views out across the city. Upon arrival at the summit, the still water sculpture welcomes guests with soft, tranquil green hues reflecting an immersion in the water.

Guestrooms and suites

Guestrooms and suites are designed to be calming and comfortable, reflective of the pond. Elegant yet practical, over 300 rooms and suites have been all carefully designed with luxury and tranquillity in mind. Patterned carpets evoke a sense of running water, with the orange of the goldfish inspiring the pop of colour on the sofa. Walk-in wardrobe, butler’s pantry, free-standing bath and feature desk with views of the skyline coalesce in a luxury residential experience desired by both leisure and business guests. Bespoke joinery and detailing throughout blends Chinese traditions with the Kempinski signature elements, while the layering of the water-inspired artworks enhances the scheme to create the perfect, peaceful setting to relax after a long day exploring the hustle and bustle of the city or enjoying its luscious parks and lakes.

The Diplomatic Suite

Presidential Suite and Diplomatic Suite

The Presidential Suite is confidently masculine, with rich dark marble, lush wood and sophisticated slate blue and gold accents.

The Diplomatic Suite is glamorously feminine with pale greens and softer hues and delicate furnishings. Both suites are designed as luxury residences within the hotel allowing guests to relax, work and formally or informally entertain.

Food and beverage

From The View to the Rōtasu Japanese restaurant, the food and beverage experiences at Kempinski Hotel Jinan offer stunning views across the city. The hotel’s signature restaurant captivates guests with a series of elegant, animated kitchens and a lounge bar to be enjoyed throughout the day.

The View was concepted from “the tea” with a focus on an invigorating and balanced design and guest experience. With subtle yet boldly elegant neutral and gold accents, the materials are natural – rich stone, wood and marble – invoking a sense of warmth.

The Rōtasu Japanese restaurant features curated moments of theater, from the Sake and Sushi bar to the Teppanyaki dining room, each space is intimate and discreet – with a contemporary and playful reference to the traditional.
