Located in one of the six famous ancient water towns south of the Yangtze River, Crowne Plaza Wuzhen is a classic yet contemporary reinterpretation of the region’s rich history – and one of two flagship properties to open in China under the global brand’s refreshed standards.
Celebrating centuries-old iconic waterside houses and local artisanal practices, the design of this four-star 254-room property drew on the site and its surrounds for inspiration – studying everything from the neighboring grey rooflines and worn stone pavers in the streets, to the relationship between materials and light – resulting in a design that is authentically of its place and serves as a sensitive nod to the past while looking forward to its prosperous future.
In the guestrooms and public areas, local inspiration abounds with textured light grey wall coverings and wooden shelves that emphasize the horizontal lines of the surrounding buildings. Bathroom tiling and embossed leather walls act as a sensitive nod to the art of indigo-dyed printing, while custom light fixtures in the lobby reimagine traditional street lanterns.
