The Palm Jumeirah, where hotel Atlantis, The Palm in Dubai locates in, is the first man-made island open to visitors. With its investment of 14 billion US dollars, the island consists of three parts: palm-trunks, 17 palm-leaves and the crescent breakwater. With its enviable position atop the crescent breakwater, Atlantis, The Palm faces the palm and the Arabian Sea, serving as a new gateway to Dubai.

Ten WATG-designed projects won top honours in 23 categories in this year's World Travel Awards. The World Travel Awards have been called the "travel industry's equivalent to the Oscar's" by The Wall Street Journal.

Garnering nine individual awards – more than any other property in the world – was the Emirates Palace, in Abu Dhabi, designed by WATG's London office. Among its many achievements, it was cited as "The World's Leading Meetings and Conference Hotel."

CHALLENGE The design challenge was to create an Atlantian themed resort destination on the man-made Palm Island in Dubai. The client’s goal was to extend the Atlantis brand and concept to cater to both hotel guests and all visitors to Dubai.

SOLUTION Situated at the center of the crescent of the Palm Jumeirah, the water theme park serves as the centerpiece of the resort which includes a luxury hotel, spa, retail entertainment village, and distinctive archeological marine exhibits. The design was based on the myth of Atlantis and maintains the iconic design elements of the Paradise Island property, while incorporating traditional Arabic design themes.
