London, June 1, 2020Architects’ Journal has today released its annual AJ100 – the UK’s definitive ranking of architecture practices throughout the country. The AJ100 survey, which was conducted prior to the coronavirus crisis, found that 2019 had been a strong year for the nation’s biggest design firms in terms of growth in both the number of architects employed, and revenue.

WATG’s London practice, based in Covent Garden, was no exception – with the year preceding its seventy-fifth anniversary resulting in a 29-spot jump from #70 in 2019, to #41 in 2020. According to Architects’ Journal, in terms of growth, “WATG led the pack with a 45 per cent increase in its number of UK architects, followed by Perkins&Will (+27 per cent, which includes the acquisition of Penoyre and Prasad) and Corstorphine + Wright (+25 per cent).”

Of the ranking, WATG London Managing Director Martin Pease said, “We are pleased to once again earn our place on the AJ100, this year breaking through from the top 100 to the top 50. Like many firms, we entered 2020 with a spirit of optimism and are maintaining this focus despite what has been a turbulent year not only for architecture practices, but our global community more broadly.”

Founded in the wake of WWII in 1945 and independent to this day, WATG has spent the past seventy-five years building its reputation as one of the world’s most well-respected design practices, offering services including Strategy, Master Planning, Architecture, Landscape Architecture and Wimberly Interiors across hospitality, urban and mixed-use, residential and entertainment and gaming design.

On what’s to come, Pease offered, “It is our mission to keep building our practice’s reputation as not the biggest, but the best – upholding our commitment to design excellence, resilience and innovation.”
