Qihu Restaurant
Guided by the site’s narrative, a new design language captured three elements which flow in different measures throughout each space: ‘mindful migration’, ‘reflecting beauty’ and ‘enchanting scenery’.
At a glance
Qihu Restaurant is the main dining venue within QiHu Hotel at Yanqi Lake, Huairou District, Beijing, China, designed by Wimberly Interiors. The design draws on the same natural narrative as the hotel: the migratory rhythms of the birds that rest on Yanqi Lake, and the mountain and water landscape that surrounds it. Three design principles — mindful migration, reflecting beauty, and enchanting scenery — are expressed through dark wood paneling, plush velvet upholstery, seasonal color accents, and botanical motifs in dialogue with floor-to-ceiling lake views. Paolo De Simone, Creative Director, led the design.
Yanqi Lake
Embraced by rolling mountains from three sides: Jundu mountain to the north, Hongluo mountain in the west and Jindeng mountain to the east, Yanqi Lake resembles a sparkling jewel set in the verdant valley. Its waters breathe life into the surrounding scenery, reflecting the wonder of nature in all its dramatic beauty.
the design
The beauty of the natural surrounding – mountains and water, and the poetry of birds’ migration journey inspired the design. layered textures and shifting tones
The layered textures and shifting tones of the surrounding landscape are interpreted through refined motifs expressed in the paneling and upholstery, creating a subtle dialogue between interior and nature.
Dark wood tones establish depth, while plush velvet introduces softness and tactile richness. Accents of nuanced hues echo the changing colors of the season.
Together, these elements compose an atmosphere of warmth that feels sophisticated, elevating the dining experience through material contrast and detail.
Private dining
“By listening intently to the client’s evolving vision, we curated Qihu, a space where contemporary design quiets down to let the landscape speak, creating a sense of place that feels both new and inevitably timeless. ”
