Yi Whiskey

A setting designed for conversation, reflection and immersive connection within a distinctly contemporary Chinese narrative.

Yi Whiskey is a bar within Yanbai Villa, China, designed by Wimberly Interiors. Conceived as an evening counterpoint to the villa’s all-day dining spaces, the bar draws on contemporary Chinese design language: fluted bar surfaces, handmade glazed tiles, starburst marquetry, and dim layered lighting set against bolder geometric forms. Deepu Mahboobani, Managing Principal of Wimberly Interiors, led the interior design. Yanbai Villa received the LIV Hospitality Design Award and the International Hotel and Property Award for Hotel Design Asia Pacific, both in 2023.

At Yi Whiskey bar, the narrative shifts from the openness of all-day dining to a more intimate and contemplative realm. As part of the immersive experience of Yanbai Villa, the bar is conceived as a refined retreat, an evening sanctuary where time slows and atmosphere deepens.

Furnishings are contemporary and never overpowering, upholstered in warm leather and fabrics. Decorative elements like starburst marquetry and handmade glazed tiles make subtle appearances but are approached with refinement and elegance. Dim intimate lighting evokes a sense of mystery and softness, in contrast with the bolder, geometric elements of the bar.

Yi Whiskey bar is a place of contrast and harmony: tactile yet tailored, dramatic yet composed. It is a setting designed not only for the appreciation of fine spirits, but for conversation, reflection and immersive connection within a distinctly contemporary Chinese narrative.
