The Design Concept

Ombria Resort represents the pinnacle of luxury, sustainable hospitality, lifestyle, and amenities. Set amidst the countryside in Portugal’s Algarve, surrounded by olive groves and oak valleys, the site’s stunning topography and the picturesque setting were the ultimate inspiration for WATG’s conceptual architectural design, implemented by Lisbon-based Promontorio architects and Wimberly Interiors.

A contemporary yet authentic expression of traditional community lifestyle, offering enduring value to its residents, community, and environment through forward-thinking design.

Sensitive to surroundings

Pontos Group’s vision was to create a village that enhanced and protected the area’s natural beauty while being sensitive to its surroundings. Through extensive research of traditional villages in Portugal and other European destinations, WATG became fascinated with each settlement’s story – many of which were as unique as the landscapes and cultures that surrounded them. Commonly, the size of a village’s central piazza or the location of its buildings can be explained by the layers of history that have formed over time. By reimagining some of these layers and applying them to the site, the development’s design evolved as a contemporary yet authentic expression of traditional community lifestyle, offering enduring value to its residents, community, and environment through forward-thinking design.

Ombria Resort’s 5-star hotel

These principles apply to the Viceroy at Ombria Resort, Ombria Resort’s 5-star hotel, located at the heart of the development. With its several restaurants, swimming pools, a spa, kid’s club, astronomic observatory, gourmet shop, central piazza, 76 guestrooms, and 65 one- and two-bedroom apartments, it is surrounded by green hills, natural streams, and an 18-hole golf course.

In keeping with Ombria Resort’s sustainability goals, locally sourced and reclaimed materials are used throughout where possible.

Interior design

Whilst completely new, its intentions are rooted in centuries of history. Cultivated from the land and embracing its unique surroundings, the interior design celebrates harmony, health, and nature. Distinctly Portuguese in spirit with warmth and texture, and with ample spaces to gather and share, hand-plastered walls evoke memories of traditional local design, while a blue and white color scheme pays homage to the country’s famous patterned porcelain tiles. In keeping with Ombria Resort’s sustainability goals, locally sourced and reclaimed materials are used throughout where possible.

Setting a new standard for low-density resort development that ensures long-term social, environmental, and economic benefits.

Open in Spring 2024

The Viceroy at Ombria Resort, part of the development’s phase one, is anticipated to open in Spring 2024, setting a new standard for low-density resort development in Europe that ensures long-term social, environmental, and economic benefits for the people, and the planet.
