A guest experience architecturally designed to be naturally at one with the rain forest both inside and out
At a glance
The Rainforest Villas is a five-bedroom villa development on Langkawi, Malaysia, totalling 1,500 square metres, designed by WATG and Wimberly Interiors. Set within the island’s rainforest, the villas are designed with minimal site impact, elevating structures above the forest floor and routing water features around existing trees. The architecture uses extensive glazing to frame views of the Andaman Sea and draw natural light into interiors finished in naturally sculpted timber and materials referencing traditional Malay culture and craft.

Villas designed to tread lightly with minimal impact featuring swimming and plunge pools, gym, dining area and bar, outdoor living spaces, library and entertainment area. Water features navigate existing trees; lily ponds, ferns and trees line walkways creating a total immersion in the forest.
The vision for the Villas is crafted to embrace the rainforest and also pay homage to traditional Malay culture and history. Patterns and materials have strong ties to the place in order to create a truly authentic destination experience for guests.
The infusion of a soft naturally inspired palette of the interiors and the warmth of the natural wood floor beneath the feet provides a comfortable private retreat floating above the forest floor. Interiors feature naturally sculpted wood that maintains the feeling of preservation and natural state in living spaces of relaxed tranquility.
Architectural design champions the environment and frames the views of the Andaman Sea. Extensive use of glass brings the outside in with protection from the elements, bathing everything in sunlight and providing a connection with Mother Nature.
