In March 2017, Hard Rock International acquired the Trump Taj Mahal property in Atlantic City, New Jersey, launching an ambitious renovation and transformation project. Within just over a year, the former casino was completely revitalized into the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Atlantic City, a dynamic, world-class entertainment venue. The project, which spanned 4,000,000 square feet, included the comprehensive redesign of its casino, hotel, event spaces, restaurants, and entertainment facilities.
Design Approach
The overarching design goal was to align the aesthetic and experiential aspects of the hotel and casino with Hard Rock International’s iconic brand—known for its rock-and-roll theme, vibrant atmosphere, and world-class entertainment experiences.
The architectural team focused on creating a space that would balance the significance of the structure with modern luxury and cutting-edge entertainment facilities. By integrating signature design elements like memorabilia displays, custom chandeliers, and glass column installations, the team was able to infuse Hard Rock’s distinctive brand identity throughout the space.
The Challenge
One of the most significant challenges of the project was the tight timeline. With just over a year to complete a massive renovation on a 4 million-square-foot property, the design and construction teams had to work efficiently and cohesively. The large-scale transformation required careful coordination between architects, designers, and contractors to meet the schedule without compromising on quality or design integrity.
The Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Atlantic City has been a transformative project for both Hard Rock International and Atlantic City. It has become a leading entertainment destination on the iconic boardwalk, drawing visitors with its top-tier gaming, dining, and entertainment options. The property’s ability to combine luxury hospitality with Hard Rock’s legendary music culture has reestablished Atlantic City as a key player in the world of entertainment and tourism.
