Hilton Hawaiian Village is a renowned resort located in Waikiki, Hawaii, known for its stunning oceanfront views and luxury accommodations. In the mid 80’s, the resort embarked on a major renovation project to enhance its facilities and elevate the guest experience. The goal was to embody the Waikiki experience within the resort, providing guests with a complete Hawaiian immersion.

Objectives

  • Modernize the property: The Hilton Hawaiian Village aimed to update its facilities and amenities to meet the evolving expectations of guests and maintain its position as a world-class resort.
  • Preserve cultural heritage: It was crucial to preserve the cultural heritage of Hawaii and incorporate authentic Hawaiian motifs and design elements throughout the resort, offering guests an immersive cultural experience.
  • Create an immersive guest experience: The resort sought to provide a comprehensive Hawaiian experience within its premises, allowing guests to enjoy various amenities, including restaurants, shops, and entertainment options.
The project aimed to seamlessly blend modern luxury with traditional Hawaiian design, creating a harmonious atmosphere.

Through the years

Vision Master Plan: To guide future development and improvements, the Hilton Hawaiian Village initiated a comprehensive vision master plan. The plan outlined the long-term goals of the resort and provided a framework for the renovation projects to come.

Lagoon Tower Conversion: The Lagoon Tower, a key component of the resort, underwent a conversion process to transform it into a timeshare property. The project involved a complete gutting and reconstruction of every unit, as well as a re-imagination of the lobby and common areas. The aim was to create a vacation ownership space that felt like a distinct Hawaiian resort property.

Rainbow Tower Renovation: As a prominent oceanfront tower within the resort, the Rainbow Tower underwent renovation to enhance its facilities and guest experience. The renovation project included updating the rooms, amenities, and public spaces, ensuring they aligned with the vision of a modern Hawaiian retreat.

Diamond Head Tower Renovation: The Diamond Head Tower, another significant part of the Hilton Hawaiian Village, underwent a renovation to update its amenities and features. The project focused on enhancing the guest experience and incorporating modern design elements while maintaining the resort’s cultural identity.

TAPA Tower New Development: To expand the resort’s offerings, the TAPA Tower was built as a new development. As the tallest building within the Hilton Hawaiian Village at the time, it offered additional accommodation options and amenities for guests.

Ali’i Tower Renovation: The Ali’i Tower, a beloved part of the Hilton Hawaiian Village, underwent a renovation to modernize its facilities and improve guest experiences. The project aimed to seamlessly blend modern luxury with traditional Hawaiian design, creating a harmonious atmosphere.

WATG also designed the ballroom and porte-cochère.

Through the ongoing collaboration with WATG, guided by the vision master plan, the Hilton Hawaiian Village has won multiple awards, ranks as one of the Hilton’s most rebooked hotels, and has solidified its position as a premier resort destination in the heart of Hawaii.
