Wimberly Interiors
In the heart of Midtown Manhattan, the Yale Club of New York City entrusted Wimberly Interiors to reinterpret its storied heritage for a new generation. Drawing on extensive experience with distinguished private clubs and a hospitality-meets-residential sensibility, the design team was asked to create guestrooms that feel both established and renewed, a true home away from home for alumni and guests. Wimberly Interiors designed 39 typical guestrooms and three one-bedroom suites on the 15th, 16th, and 17th floors of the Club.
The approach required a thoughtful balance, honoring the Club’s dignified neoclassical architecture and cherished traditions while introducing a sense of freshness, modern comfort, and a reflection of the inclusivity that defines Yale today. The result is a composition that combines nostalgia and sophistication, offering an environment that feels familiar yet distinctly of today.
The inspiration is rooted in Yale’s guiding motto, Lux et Veritas (Light and Truth). The objective was to craft spaces that not only embody an ethereal quality but also cater to the diverse community of the Club’s membership. In doing so, the interiors pay tribute to the rich history of both The Yale Club of New York City and the University while ushering them into a new era defined by openness and authenticity.
A refined palette of crisp white, soft taupe, and layered tones of blue evokes tranquility and sophistication. The scheme embraces muted, gray-blue variations of Yale’s bold blue to convey modern refinement. Pattern and texture are introduced through clean striped fabrics, elegant wallcoverings, and crafted dressmaker trims. Tailored detailing echoes the Club’s architectural heritage, while soft curves and rounded edges promote approachability, balancing the classic and the contemporary.
“I loved learning about the Club’s history and translating that motto into design. It feels light and true to Yale, rooted in heritage yet refreshed for the future. ”
The guestrooms are conceived as elegant sanctuaries amidst the city’s energy. Each reveals a considered interplay between formality and ease, pairing tailored furniture with soft fabrics and lighter finishes that bring brightness and calm.
The one-bedroom suites extend this expression with darker woods, rich neutral tones, and blue-gray accents that ground the rooms in warmth and character. They are comfortable yet refined, designed for the well-traveled member who values both history and modern convenience.
Lighting and materials were carefully selected to bring a sense of brightness and openness to each room, creating a welcoming atmosphere within the Club’s historic urban setting.

Every element was chosen for longevity and meaning. Durable, tactile textiles and warm wood finishes convey quality and permanence, while fine trims and polished metal accents lend quiet elegance.
A defining feature of the project is its art collection, which presents a visual dialogue honoring Yale and the Club’s past, present, and future. In collaboration with the Club’s librarian and archives manager, Wimberly Interiors curated a collection that combines archival imagery with original works by Yale-alumni artists. The result celebrates the institution’s evolution and its commitment to excellence, truth, and diversity of thought.

The transformation reimagines the guestrooms and suites in a timeless yet current perspective, scholarly yet serene. By blending craftsmanship with narrative intent, Wimberly Interiors has created an environment that interprets the Club’s enduring character and offers comfort for all who enter, bright, balanced, and unmistakably Yale.
“We selected Wimberly because they understood our story. I’ve worked with Wimberly in the past and they really knew how to take what we envisioned and incorporate it, so that when members walked into our rooms, they felt a piece of Yale in there. We wanted to create a space that had a balance to it, that felt functional, fresh, and inspiring. Every renovation should be not just how the space looks, but how it suits our members.” – Daniel Perez, General Manager, Yale Club of New York City
