Years of partnership

Based on years of partnership on multiple projects, MGM Resorts International sought the expertise of Wimberly Interiors to update two of its most luxurious spaces within the renowned Bellagio Las Vegas. The goal of the renovation of the Baccarat Lounge and Club Privé was to refresh the spaces for the next generation of clientele who are younger and more global, with a distinct appreciation for design. Because Bellagio’s client relationships are so personal and meaningful – many have been repeat customers for decades – the design team had to understand what they’re thinking, feeling, and doing, and design specifically for them and their connection to this iconic property.

To inform a new visual narrative, Wimberly Interiors dug into the historic context of Lake Como that has inspired the resort’s design since it first opened in 1998.

The design concept

To inform a new visual narrative, Wimberly Interiors dug into the historic context of Lake Como that has inspired the resort’s design since it first opened in 1998, traveling to find inspiration in the Northern Italian region’s architecture, culture, fashion, and more. The design team also asked key stakeholders within the Las Vegas resort how they define “Bellagio.” Listening closely to responses, Wimberly Interiors understood that Bellagio customers want to be glamorous without being kitsch: sophisticated, tailored, and refined. All of these inputs informed the creation of personas that embody the classic Northern Italian personality and style, and who would come to life in a new design story. The secluded high-limit lounge, Club Privé, would reflect the heritage of the Privé family personas by boldly layering the baroque with the avant-garde. The Baccarat Lounge, which links the primary casino with the VIP spaces, would represent its more formal namesake family of personas with classical forms of order and symmetry.

These ultra-luxurious spaces are positioned to be exclusive and yet open to all guests, so they’re designed to draw people in and invite them to stay.

ultra-luxurious spaces

The result is a refreshed series of spaces with new furnishings, fixtures and finishes that are entirely custom, from the large, sculptural elements to the fine details. Existing architectural elements remain in place and have been re-stained with more contemporary, lighter finishes that balance with the opulent jewel tones featured in hand-painted wallcoverings, embroidery, and hand-tufted carpets.

These ultra-luxurious spaces are positioned to be exclusive and yet open to all guests, so they’re designed to draw people in and invite them to stay. A true destination within the Bellagio resort, the entrance to Club Privé sets the tone with custom balustrades and backlit panels that indicate something special is within. Then, as guests step inside, they are surrounded by opulence: regal colors of deep purple, emerald green and turquoise; high lacquer finishes and sculptural elements; and dramatic light fixtures, including a central chandelier with forms inspired by the gardens of Northern Italy.

Since the updated spaces’ reveal, VIP customers have said the redesign feels new and fresh, yet “so Bellagio” – exactly what was needed.

The result

All of the elements are bespoke, designed by Wimberly Interiors, including custom hand-painted fabric wall coverings and smooth leather panels trimmed by metal and braided leather. Another wall covering, inspired by Northern Italy’s glass mosaics, makes an artistic statement while a central glass screen brings a feng shui balance to the lounge. These layers of details become the backdrop to an immersive casino experience, subtly articulating the purpose of bringing people together and keeping the money flowing.

Three private gaming salons have also been updated. These unique oval-shaped rooms feature rich hues of plum, orange, and red, symbolizing good luck. Buffet zones have been added to the spaces to provide VIPs with access to food and beverage while encouraging them to linger longer within their private salons.
