a tropical haven

The Grand Hyatt Kauai Resort & Spa, Kauai, is a testament to the harmonious integration of architecture with the natural environment. From its inception, the design team at WATG envisioned a tropical haven that would embrace the island’s inherent beauty while celebrating its wild elements.

Inspired by Kauai’s brisk trade winds, surf, and salt-laden air, the tropical design concept aimed to capture the essence of these elements.

Synchronizing with Nature

The design team recognized the significance of harmonizing the built environment with the island’s natural gifts. Inspired by Kauai’s brisk trade winds, surf, and salt-laden air, the tropical design concept aimed to capture the essence of these elements while providing a comfortable and luxurious experience for guests.

A central tenet of the design philosophy was to create an atmosphere of tranquility. To achieve this, the spa was purposefully positioned at the farthest point from the main lobby. This deliberate placement ensured that guests seeking relaxation and rejuvenation could indulge in the spa’s offerings undisturbed, immersing themselves in a haven of calmness.

Rather than erecting a monolithic structure, the resort’s 600 guest rooms were carefully dispersed throughout the landscape.

Iconic Hawaiian Architecture

The resort seamlessly blends into its surroundings, thanks to a layout that intertwines with the lush gardens and lagoons. Rather than erecting a monolithic structure, the resort’s 600 guest rooms were carefully dispersed throughout the landscape. This design approach allows for unobstructed views of the island’s scenery and allows guests to feel connected to nature at every turn.

The resort’s design pays homage to the classic Hawaiian architectural style, which is renowned for its elegance and connection to the natural environment. Thatched and tiled roofs adorn the structures, evoking a sense of authenticity and timelessness.

Infusing the space with tropical patterns, complemented by inviting warm wood tones and traditional Hawaiian finishes.

Interior design

Wimberly Interiors faced the exciting challenge of crafting a design for the Grand Hyatt Kauai that would fully embrace the breathtaking natural beauty of the surroundings. Their solution involved infusing the space with tropical patterns, complemented by inviting warm wood tones and traditional Hawaiian finishes. To add a touch of modernity, contemporary accessories were thoughtfully incorporated.
