The Ritz-Carlton, Marina del Rey

CHALLENGE The design challenge was to create a hotel that would serve as the focal point for the main channel of the world's largest small crafts' harbor, and provide easy access to the waterfront and surrounding recreation areas.

SOLUTION The architects designed a 14-story postmodern guest tower and two-story public areas to take full advantage of the seaside views. Arrival is into a second floor lobby that displays a broad view of the marina, and public areas are directed towards the harbor and promenade. Intensely landscaped gardens emphasize the marine setting.
