8.13.10 - Top Suites of the Southern California Coast: The Lodge at Torrey Pines |
CHALLENGE The design challenge was to transform a 75-room 1960's motel into a luxurious 175-room resort environment that authentically reflects the California Craftsman style of architecture, with a contemporary feel of elegance and warmth.
SOLUTION Modeled after the Gamble and Blacker houses in Pasadena, California, the Lodge was designed with relaxation and comfort in mind. To complement the pristine beauty of the area, the design team implemented a natural color palette, graceful wing-like roof lines, shingle and sandstone-bluff exteriors, clinker-brick masonry, rich woodwork and natural stone surfaces.
