9.03.08 - Sheraton Resort In Arizona Goes "GeoGreen"
Hotels Magazine

The Sheraton Wild Horse Pass Resort & Spa goes beyond Green and promotes both Cultural Sustainability and Environmental Responsibility with its new GeoGreen initiative.

CHALLENGE The design challenge was to create a resort that would respect the natural elements of the local environment, and reflect the history and cultures of the Native American tribes.

SOLUTION The design process began with the development of an authentic cultural program that told the story of the proud Pima and Maricopa tribal cultures. A 2.5 mile river feature was incorporated to flow throughout the entire development, linking its various components and echoing the tribes' past reverence for the Gila River. The Gila River environment was recreated after decades of hardship due to water deprivation. Travelers are provided with a unique experience that blends natural desert beauty and Gila River culture.
