Three WATG-renovated projects were recently honored in the Building Industry Association (BIA) Hawaii's Renaissance Building & Remodeling Awards 2011.

The JW Marriott Ihilani guestroom renovation was the Grand Award winner in "Commercial Remodeling – Projects from 7,501-15,000 square feet" category.

In celebration of the Grand Hyatt Kauai Resort & Spa’s 20th anniversary, WATG gave the property a new and revitalized look that was created by bringing the richness of Kauai indoors. The interior renovation received the Merit Award for "Commercial Remodeling – Projects over 15,001 square feet."

The Orchid Suite at Halekulani won the Merit Award for "Commercial Remodeling – Projects under 5,000 square feet."

6.14.11 - Hawaiian JW Marriott resort completes $18 million room overhaul

The JW Marriott Ihilani Resort and Spa on Oahu's west side has finished an $18 million overhaul of all of its guest rooms.

The room renovation's the latest improvement at the 18-year-old resort, which now faces new competition on this part of the island since Disney opened the Aulani, with 460 Disney Vacation Club Villas and 359 hotel rooms and suites.

Design firm WATG did the room renovation, which recently won a coveted award for high-quality commercial remodeling.

As one of Hawaii's premier oceanfront resorts for leisure travelers, group meetings and weddings, the luxurious JW Marriott Ihilani Resort & Spa at Ko Olina is refining all 387 guest rooms and suites, scheduled to be completed in early 2011.

CHALLENGE The challenge was to provide a new guestroom scheme for the property that was contemporary and fresh while still maintaining a sense of place and evoking luxury.

SOLUTION A clean palette of sea blue and sand was paired with custom designed furnishings and fabrics that relayed traditional Hawaiian kapa patterns. Hawaiian feather leis were used as artwork.
