CHALLENGE Design a deluxe urban resort that would uphold international standards and, at the same time, reflect traditional Malaysian influences.
SOLUTION The 32-story hotel was designed to attract visitors from around the world and appeal to local residents as well--with a level of luxury that Mandarin Oriental guests have come to expect. WATG set out to design an "urban resort on the park," with an eye toward economics, aesthetics, and tradition. Materials such as granite and wood from the region were used extensively, along with fresh interpretations of Malaysian culture.
