Kangwon Land Hotel

CHALLENGE The design challenge was to create a year-round village environment and mystical village nestled in the bowl of a mountainside, overlooking a valley and an emerald lake below.

SOLUTION WATG architects covered many of the streets and plazas -- which host a variety of shops, restaurants, rides, fountains and sculptures -- with glass skylights. The hotel is reached in dramatic fashion through a tunnel, and guests can enjoy 360-degree views of the surrounding mountains, villages, lake, and valley.
