CHALLENGE The design goal as requested by the client was to develop a world class destination to include four resort hotels (865 total keys), an 18-hole golf course with clubhouse, a 461-slip marina and marina village, a casino, two beach clubs and 161 residential villas – as well as the necessary infrastructure and support facilities – on the 643-acre beachfront site.

SOLUTION Along with the developer, WATG's planning group embraced the challenge by first creating access from the regional airport via a ferry system, thus cutting overland travel to the resort by more than one hour. Second, four resort hotels were placed along three kilometers of pristine beach, using the golf course as a buffer from the nearby national conservation preserve. Finally, the marina, marina village and casino were located in a separate bay to widen and enhance the possible visitor experiences at the resort.

SIZE 643 acres

AMENITIES Four resort hotels (865 keys); 18-hole championship golf course and clubhouse; 461-slip marina; marina village and casino; two beach clubs; 161 residential units; ferry landing; staff housing and support services
