Grecotel Cape Sounio

CHALLENGE The design challenge was to refurbish a dilapidated hotel in a natural conservation area into a unique luxury resort that could serve as a haven for serenity and relaxation.

SOLUTION Taking its architectural direction from the mythical Temple of Poseidon, clearly visible from most bungalows, the resort was designed to echo the Attica landscape, blue sea and clear skies of the Aegean. Special design features include a glass boardwalk leading to vistas of the site’s own archaeological ruins, and four intricately designed water features made from traditional Greek marble. Natural materials and indigenous plants were used where possible, adding to the site’s uniqueness while being considerate of the native environment.
