CHALLENGE The client requested a 300- to 400-room hotel, with all entry and public areas near the water and ocean views from a majority of guestrooms.

SOLUTION Throughout the hotel, the architects used design elements to take advantage of, and enhance, the building's tropical setting: cross ventilation; sun-protected and breeze-cooled open spaces; natural lighting; the blurring of boundaries between indoors and outdoors; focus on water for sight, sound and feel; and the use of lush, exotic plant materials.

AMENITIES Retail shops; 24,000 square feet of meeting and function space; dining options indoors and out; library; children's playroom; fitness center with spa services; numerous water features and gardens; two tennis courts
