CHALLENGE The challenge was to build a new luxury hotel and conference centre next to a well known but dated hotel on the Airport Road in Heliopolis near Cairo, without disturbing the operation of the existing hotel, its poolside and landscape. The second phase of construction has just been completed and consisted of demolishing the existing conference rooms and adding an additional new conference suite, public areas and restaurants.

SOLUTION The large conference room space was placed below ground with a landscaped atrium garden above to allow most of the rooms to look onto the garden. The architecture uses radiating lines themed on Heliopolis - city of the sun. Subtle sun motifs in the architecture and interiors decorate the modern progressive style. The ballroom was themed on the Red Sea, with coral-like glass decorative lighting, walls of water and water motion lights. The restaurant and café project into the atrium gardens as boardwalk terraces in pools of water.

SIZE 247 guestrooms; 10 suites

AMENITIES Lounge; bar; atrium garden; restaurant and dining outlets; extensive conference facilities; 2,000-person capacity ballroom; business centre
