11.15.10 - Ten WATG Hotel Projects Win 23 World Travel Awards
eGlobal Travel News

Ten WATG-designed projects won top honours in 23 categories in this year's World Travel Awards. The World Travel Awards have been called the "travel industry's equivalent to the Oscar's" by The Wall Street Journal.

Garnering nine individual awards – more than any other property in the world – was the Emirates Palace, in Abu Dhabi, designed by WATG's London office. Among its many achievements, it was cited as "The World's Leading Meetings and Conference Hotel."

CHALLENGE The overriding design challenge was to create the world's best over-water experience for resort guests and to provide for every anticipated need at a level that has never been seen in the Maldives. The architectural and interior designs were intended to link the new villas with the existing on-land guestrooms.

SOLUTION A highly unique design scheme took maximum advantage of its aquatic environment, with features such as a glass-floored living room; a round, rotating bed; disappearing partitions and doors to merge the living room, bedroom and bathroom; outdoor balcony whirlpools for unlimited sea views; and high-tech amenities.
